Chai Kanchanahoti has always had a natural predilection for beauty; it was a matter of channeling his talent into one art. As a child he used to paint watercolor and majored in fashion design in the 9th grade. He moved onto architecture in college. During his freshman year, Chai, who always had a particular passion for flowers, often frequented a local floral shop named KaBloom. The owner, noticing Chai’s intrinsic color palette and astounding gift for flower selection and arrangement, offered him a job. Upon taking the job at KaBloom and continuing to work through his first year of college, Chai remembers how life became a "battle between calculus and flowers." Chai’s passion for flowers won the battle and so at the tender age of 17 he dropped out of college and devoted his life to the floral business.

In two short years, Chai moved from KaBloom, a national retail chain, to Winston Flowers, an upscale floral purveyor that outfits the tony neighborhoods of Boston and fine luxury hotels. Chai became established with a clientele base of women who would emerge from Rolls Royces and Bentleys, point and say "I want a bucket of this. I want the whole bucket of that…" Soon, Chai became the most sought after floral designer in Boston with clients like The Ritz Carlton and The Four Seasons calling on him once or twice a week.

In 2003, when Chai moved to Philadelphia with his distinguished portfolio, he was surprised to find that local florists were only willing to offer a paltry fraction of the salary he enjoyed at Winston Flowers for his exceptional services. After one ill fated interview at a flower shop on Spruce Street, Chai was walking to his apartment on Walnut street, he saw a huge ‘For Rent’ sign on an empty store window on Locust Street. Without hesitation, the 21-year-old flower connoisseur rented the property. He slept in the store for three days and sanded the floor with a power sander rented from Home Depot. After painting the walls, outfitting the retail space and maxing out two credit cards, Chai figured he would he either survive for three months and succeed, or be forced from the business entirely.

While most twenty-something's meander through college, focusing on their social life, Chai commandeered a fledgling business utilizing self-taught skills that older graduate students could only hope to acquire with an M.B.A. degree. Combining this entrepreneurial savvy with his refined artistic talent, Chai and his creation, ‘Fleur’ have more than survived. In fact, Fleur has expanded into Manayunk, with the addition of a shop that focuses exclusively on weddings. Given his success, Chai could expand Fleur to other locations, but he prefers to focus on exceptional quality rather than quantity.

In 2006 Fleur is proudly announced by Philadelphia Magazine as BEST OF PHILLY "Floral designer/flower shops".

Chai has undoubtedly achieved exceptional quality with Fleur. He emphasizes his desire to follow his passion, which means emphasizing style and quality. His style fuses European and Asian influences, creating stunning floral designs that appear fresh and modern with the familiar warmth of classical touches. Of all his accomplishments, from establishing two successful stores, one express cash&carry location and one wedding studio while still in his twenties to creating countless wedding memories for newlyweds, Chai is most proud of his consistently creative and fitting flower selections.

Chai handpicks all of his flowers twice a week. While other flower vendors spend half an hour picking out their merchandise, Chai spends two to three hours, weeding through mounds of flowers in order to find the perfect gem among the bunch. An order will not be shipped to Fleur until Chai personally approves the product. He patiently scours the market for unique and rare flowers, while always insisting upon freshness and quality.

An emerging, vivacious twenty-something, Chai is sure to delight many future brides. His future in Philadelphia appears long and bright; and Chai couldn’t be more pleased about that. After creating masterpieces for stuffy upper crust Bostonians, he finds Philadelphia refreshingly fun. Chai’s hard work and passion for flowers will make the Philadelphia area a foremost center of floral design for decades to come.

Occasionally, substitutions may be necessary to create your bouquet due to the availability of certain flowers in various parts of the country. Care is taken to maintain the style, theme and color scheme of the arrangement, using flowers of equal value. Additionally, the substitution of certain keepsake items may be necessary due to increased demand, especially during major holidays. In single-flower arrangements, such as an all rose bouquet, or orchids, we will make every attempt to match the flower type, but may substitute with another color.
